North Carolina Sunrise Mountain Engagement at Rough Ridge

As destination engagement and wedding photographers, we love to see couples integrate pieces of their story into their sessions!  Gavin and Victoria joined us for a breathtaking sunrise engagement photos in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, a location near & dear to their hearts, and we were thrilled to get to know them.  Because spending time in nature is one of their favorite pastimes they share together, we knew a quick but scenic hike along Rough Ridge Trail was the way to go.  The results speak for themselves!

North Carolina Engagement

Along the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina lie some of the most beautiful hikes the state has to offer.  We settled on Rough Ridge, a trail right outside of Boone near Grandfather Mountain and the ever-popular Linville Cove Viaduct. We knew we were in for breathtaking views while paying tribute to Gavin & Victoria’s story. While on a camping trip, Gavin secretly recruited the help of Victoria’s two best friends to pull off a surprise engagement.  At one of the overlooks on one of their favorite waterfall hikes, Gavin got down on one knee and proposed while her best friends hid in the trees equipped with champagne & a camera to document the occasion.  This session was definitely a wink & a nod to how their engagement began!

Rough Ridge Trail Engagement Photos

We met Gavin and Victoria at Rough Ridge at sunrise for their North Carolina engagement session, and the views were unbelievable.  Rough Ridge is one of the most popular hikes along the Blue Ridge Parkway, and for good reason! While the hike is short, it’s jam-packed with stunning views. They were clear from the beginning that they preferred a more private session because they consider themselves fairly shy. Our early morning allowed us to beat the crowds and gave Gavin and Victoria more privacy for their photos.  Interestingly, they claimed to be awkward in photos but as you can see from the gallery, they were anything but!

Blue Ridge Mountain Engagement Session

The combination of the chemistry between this gorgeous couple and the stunning views overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains made magic. When we arrived, the moon was still in the sky which made for a very cool, serene morning.  The trail was empty aside from us in the quiet of the early morning, and it was a memory we’ll hang onto for a lifetime. As photographers, we couldn’t help but appreciate the painterly backdrop.  As consumers of the hike, we wanted to bottle up the serenity & experience.  While we explored the trail together, the sun began to peek through and bathed them in golden light as we enjoyed miles & miles of mountain peaks from the overlooks.

Upcoming Brown Mountain Resort Wedding

Spending the cool, crisp mountain morning adventuring with Gavin and Victoria along Rough Ridge was a truly unforgettable experience!  They trusted us completely as we asked them to climb rocks and sit on the edges of cliffs.  For a couple who thought they wouldn’t be comfortable in front of our lenses, they achieved model status pretty quickly.  We enjoyed getting to know this amazing couple throughout our hike together and it made us even more excited to photograph their upcoming wedding. When we get to shoot engagement photos before a wedding, we build a relationship with our couples. That way, once the wedding rolls around it’s more like we’re cheering on friends on their big day than working. We can’t wait to celebrate with Gavin & Victoria in December at their winter wedding at Brown Mountain Beach Resort!
