Derek + Kasey’s Engagement Session in Artsy Chicago
This was such a fun experience! Derek + Kasey’s engagement session didn’t go as originally planned, but it turned out to be a total hit! The original plan involved shooting outdoors and capturing Chicago’s skyline, but the weather had a different idea as it poured the entire time we were there. The rain wasn’t able to dampen the mood though! It ended up providing the opportunity for some spontaneity and romance…I think it was meant to be!
Vintage Vibe in Gilt Bar
Derek + Kasey originally wanted to return to the location of their proposal for their engagement session but since the weather prevented us from ever seeing the skyline, we had to pivot. Kasey acted quickly and rented out an editorial, vintage vibe bar to shoot in. Gilt Bar in downtown Chicago is not like any place that I have shot before. We had the whole bar to ourselves for 30 minutes.
This was such a full circle moment because Derek + Kasey first met in a bar. This is where their relationship began and they haven’t looked back since! I could tell just how comfortable the setting made them feel. The intimacy and sentimentality were present. It made the photo session easy and effortless.
From there, we ventured out into the rainy weather for a stroll along the bustling streets. Despite the hustle and bustle, the genuine bond shared between Derek and Kasey was all the mattered. Capturing a handful of outdoor shots was a fantastic experience, aligning perfectly with Derek and Kasey’s initial vision for their session.
Finale at the Art Institute of Chicago
The sheer vastness of the museum was overwhelming and it was extremely busy! Even with those two things on my mind, we were able to focus on being creative and playful with the engagement session. The Chicago Art Institute offered an array of opportunities for shots. Derek + Kasey had loads of fun – as you can see!
A goal of the couples’ was to demonstrate on film how fun their relationship is. They exceeded this goal and it made taking their photos such a breeze and an honor! They were in their element and we could not only see, but also feel how much they enjoy one another.
