Downtown Tampa Engagement Photos
When Clifton and Sophie scheduled their downtown Tampa engagement session, they knew they wanted something out of the ordinary. They also knew that they wanted to be able to put their photos to good use, as they’re eloping in Mexico next year. I was tasked with capturing engagement photos of this beautiful & fun couple that encompassed their vibe and could be used as invitations and save-the-dates. We decided on The Hotel Flor & The Dan Bar right in the heart of downtown Tampa both for the aesthetic and the proximity to other beautiful locations for photos. (Not only did it fit the vibe, the staff was so accommodating for the session!) I couldn’t wait to get them in front of the camera!
Hotel Flor
Since Sophie & Clifton will be traveling for their wedding next year, it was only fitting that we incorporate a hotel and their luggage for shots that would encompass their vision. The Hotel Flor, formerly known as the Hotel Floridian, was the perfect spot for the vintage glam aesthetic Sophie had in mind for the session. It has all of the charm and class of a bygone era with modern touches, and it’s conveniently located in the heart of downtown. Sophie knew she wanted a vintage vibe for their photos, and the rich history and architecture of this beautiful Tampa staple fit the bill! We incorporated their luggage and the art deco inspired elevators into several of the shots as a way to pay homage to both their love for travel and their upcoming destination nuptials.
The Dan Bar
Just outside the lobby of the Hotel Flor is The Dan Bar. Clifton & Sophie donned their glam attire for drinks at the bar, right next to a mural of a 1920s flapper (a wink and a nod to the roaring ‘20s and the building’s history.) Since the couple are foodies and enjoy exploring the Tampa area and its eateries & bars, it was totally fitting that they include their weekend hobby in their photos! These two are both so chill and fun to be around, and the photos we snapped at The Dan are great indicators of their personalities. They kept it sophisticated and cool as they sipped their drinks and cozied up in the intimately lit bar before we made one final stop during their session.
Tampa Theatre
After an afternoon of photographing this amazing couple, my favorite part was the grand finale: popping champagne outside the Tampa Theatre! The gorgeous golden hour glow illuminated Sophie & Clifton while the marquee shone in the background, a perfect tribute to their new life here in Tampa. It doesn’t get much more old Hollywood than that, does it? The romance of the era that inspired Sophie was right on brand for a couple as in love as these two are. I wish them nothing but happiness and adventure for years to come!
